DESCRIPTION:New Baptists Together President Geoff Colmer is encouraging Baptist churches to be attentive to God and not rush back to what they have always done. You can read more about that here.\n\nWe’re delighted to be welcoming Geoff to our next online Rhythms of Grace day in November\, here’s a little more about him:\n\nI have the privilege of serving as Regional Minister and Team Leader of the Central Baptist Association.  In what sometimes seems like a previous life I was a professional musician\, playing the bassoon in the English Northern Philharmonia\, and music continues to play a large part in my life and ministry.  Following my training at Spurgeon’s College I was Minister of Rye Baptist Church and then Melton Mowbray Baptist Church\, before moving to my present role in 2004.  In July 2020 I was diagnosed with myeloma but following extensive treatment I am presently in remission.  This\, together with the pandemic\, has brought another dimension to my theme as President of the Baptist Union\, ‘Attentive to rhythms of grace.’\n\n\nI’m really looking forward to being with Webnet on 25 November.  I’m going to explore my theme\, Attentive to rhythms of grace over three sessions:\nAttentive to rhythms of grace in all things – watch for the kingfisher\nAttentive to rhythms of grace in the arts – music is rife with rumours of God\nAttentive to rhythms of grace in weakness – surgical stockings and pull-up pants\n\nThere will be plenty of opportunity during the day to reflect\, to stop\, look and listen.\n\n\nTo book your place please  contact Alex Drew.

DESCRIPTION:As part of CMD (Continuing Ministerial Development) we want to facilitate ongoing development for ministers / pastoral leaders and enable the development of the habit of accountability. \nIn peer mentoring\, we walk with another minister to mentor each other. The principles of peer mentoring are the same as for any mentoring\, but the relationship is two way. We ask each other the questions necessary to help us process and examine our ministry\, devotional and personal life. Likewise\, we establish some goals or actions for each other to work towards between each meeting. Because it can be tempting to ‘go easy’ on a peer who may also be a friend\, we are attentive to the need to maintain rigour and challenge in our mutual mentoring. \nThis training session is organised by our Regional Partnership (Southern Counties Baptist Association\, South Wales Baptist Association\, South West Baptist Association\, Webnet). \nThis training will take place via Zoom. \nContact us to book your place and receive the Zoom link.

Prior to pastoring\, he had eclectic careers: teaching\, MP\, PR consultant and CEO of Anglican Schools\, all based in Sydney. After losing his career as an MP he went through a ‘dark night of the soul’\, coming out the other side as a consequence of a profound mystical experience with Christ on the Cross. That began a search to understand this experience and a yearning for deeper communion with God\, leading to his discovery of Ignatian (Jesuit) spirituality through retreats and spiritual direction. In 1999 he resigned his position as CEO\, undertook a 40 day retreat (mostly in silence) according to ‘The Spiritual Exercises’ of St Ignatius and in 2000 trained as a spiritual director while living in a Jesuit community in USA. He continues his passionate vocation offering spiritual direction and retreats.

DESCRIPTION:An invitation for retired ministers in WEBA\nDuring the past year a number of our colleagues have retired and have settled in the west of England\, and it seems like a suitable time to suggest that we might gather together\, catch up with one another and share fellowship together.  So we\, the regional ministry team would like to invite you to join us at Little Stoke Baptist Church for a Retired Ministers Buffet Lunch on Monday 20th of January from 12pm – 2.30pm. \nThis time together will give us an opportunity to explore whether you yourselves would be interested in establishing a more regular connection\, that you would organise and facilitate.  It might be that the opportunity to share regular fellowship together and the opportunity of speaking into each other’s lives is something that a number of you would appreciate. \nIt is almost a year since we\, the WEBA team moved into our new offices at Little Stoke BC.  Some of you have already visited us there\, but for others\, it will give an opportunity to see where we are based and to hear a little of what we are doing. \nWe’d be delighted if you are able to join us for the buffet lunch and WEBA will cover the cost of the meal for retired colleagues.  If you have a spouse\, we’d also be delighted if they are also able to join us.  If so\, we would ask please\, that you personally would cover the cost of your spouse’s meal.  We suggest a sum of £7.50. \nWe’d be most grateful if you would contact Alex Drew\, and let us know whether you are able or not able to join us on 20th January 2020.  She can be contacted by email at alex.drew@webassoc.org.uk or by phoning the WEBA office on 0117 965 8828.

If that’s where you are\, we’d like to help you explore your calling and perhaps help you to take the next step\, wherever that may lead you. \nExploring Your Calling? is an event where we’ll be making space for you to ask questions\, to talk it over with those who are experienced\, and for you to reflect and pray. \nWe’ll have representatives from the WEBA team\, Bristol Baptist College and BMS here throughout the morning to help you\, in the hope that at the right time you will step out in confidence\, away from the crossroad and along God’s chosen path for you. \nThis will be a free event.
