Pastoral Leaders Day with Helen Paynter

You know them: those parts of scripture that we skip over when we preach; the bits of the psalms that we edit out when we use them in church; the sections of the Bible that bring a blush to our cheeks or make our sensibilities burn. But what are we missing when we avoid these thornier passages? Can we use them in ways that are pastorally helpful? And what do we do when folk in our congregation stumble across them for themselves?

In this Pastoral Leaders Day, Helen Paynter (Baptist minister and Director of the Centre for the Study of Bible and Violence) will try to address some of these questions, and offer some ways of helping our churches to grapple with the thorns without getting stuck.

This day is aimed at Pastoral Leaders. However, all Pastoral Leaders are encouraged to consider if others in their church, especially those involved in teaching and preaching God’s word, would also benefit. Please pass this invitation on accordingly!
